Academic Background and Teaching:  Dr. Hossain earned a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Memphis, TN, USA, with a comprehensive focus on disciplines such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cognitive Science, and Information Systems/Technology. Prior to this, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering was successfully completed. Accompanying these qualifications are two master's degrees, one in computer engineering with a project centered around cognitive neuroscience, and the other in computer science with a thesis focused on cybersecurity (18 credits). Boasting over two decades of experience, Dr. Hossain has contributed instructional expertise to both graduate and undergraduate programs, covering diverse fields including information science, computer science, computer engineering, and biomedical engineering. Throughout this extensive period, Dr. Hossain has taught more than 15 courses and mentored over 20 graduate students, including two Ph.D. candidates, for whom a role as a committee member was undertaken. Additionally, supervision of 15 master’s theses has been successfully accomplished. Currently, Dr. Hossain is actively engaged in mentoring 7 Ph.D. students within the Department of Information Science at the University of North Texas (UNT).

Interdisciplinary Research: Multiple research fields, including Data Science, Cognitive Neuroscience, AI and ML Applications, Recommender Systems, and Cybersecurity Management, have been encompassed by Dr. Hossain's research expertise. Over 50+ peer-reviewed research articles have been published. At the University of North Texas (UNT), the role of Director for the Security, Cognitive Modeling, and Recommender Systems (SCORE) research lab is held. A total of $3 million in research funding has been secured as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI. Currently, leadership is provided for two projects: The first one, titled "Providing Environment and Resources for STEM 9th-12th Graders in Effective Cybersecurity Training – PERFECT," was awarded $600K (2022-2025) from the ONR. The second one, titled “Cyber-CREWS: Minority Community Cybersecurity Research, Educational Engagement, Workforce Development, and Security Best Practices,” received $1M (2023-2027) from the DHS. Other sources of funding encompass a $40K Azure Award from Microsoft (PI – 100%), an equipment award from the Department of Energy (DoE) for approximately $800K (PI – 100%), a $500K grant from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) (Co-PI – 15%), a sub-contract for data science training for $25K from the South Big Data Hub at Georgia Tech (NSF) (PI), and access to NVIDIA Inc.'s Deep Learning Tools, valued at approximately $70K (PI).

Services : Within the academic and research community, service has been provided on various committees at the department, college, and university levels. Additionally, the role of Director of the Cyber Security Lab/Center at West Texas A&M University for the 2021-2022 academic year was assigned. Since 2021, the position of an ABET Program Evaluator for Computer Science, Data Science, and Computer Engineering programs has been held.

Honors/Awards: Recognition for contributions to teaching and mentoring has been received through several honors and awards. Specifically, the "Best Faculty Award" was conferred for three consecutive years (2015-2017) by the Center for Teaching Effectiveness at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Additionally, the "Best Mentor Award" was received for guidance provided in my students' research, securing first and second prizes in the PATHWAYS conference in 2017, among participants from 11 Texas A&M University campuses. More recently, the “Faculty Excellence Award 2023” has been granted by the College of Information at the University of North Texas. Furthermore, the "Best Paper" award at the IEEE CCWC 2024 was received for one of our conference papers.
